Today I tried to make whole cranberry sauce from Ocean Spray, I saw the recipe on the official website, and then I decided to give it a shot.

First, I gotta prepare the ingredients. They were pretty simple actually, just whole cranberries, water, and sugar. I ran to the grocery store and bought a bag of fresh cranberries. Oh, also bought some filtered water. I used filtered water because I’m afraid tap water will affect the flavor.

Then, I measured out the ingredients according to the recipe. It says one cup of water, one cup of sugar, and one 12-ounce bag of cranberries. I dumped the cranberries into a pot and washed it, I’m not really sure if that’s necessary. After that, I poured the water and sugar in.

Next, I put the pot on the stove and turned the heat to medium-high. The mixture began to heat up and the cranberries started popping. This part was kinda cool. I stirred it occasionally to make sure the sugar was dissolving, and also to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. But some of the cranberries did stick to the bottom. It was a mess.

After about 10 minutes, most of the cranberries had popped and the sauce started to thicken. I reduced the heat to low and let it simmer for another 5 minutes. During this time, I kept stirring to make sure it didn’t burn. The sugar and water started to turn into a syrup-like thing.

Once it reached the thickness I wanted, I turned off the heat and let the sauce cool down. As it cooled, it thickened up even more. It kinda looked like what we can get from the supermarket, that’s why I thought this recipe was amazing!

  • One cup of water
  • One cup of sugar
  • One 12-ounce bag of cranberries

After it cooled completely, I transferred the sauce to a bowl and put it in the fridge. They say it’s best served cold, especially with holiday meals. I’ll probably try it with turkey or chicken next week.

Overall, this was a pretty easy and fun recipe to try. The sauce turned out great and it tasted really good, just like the store-bought version but probably much healthier. And I bet homemade is way better.
