Okay, so I saw this thing online about turning regular marshmallows into marshmallow cream, and I was like, “No way, that sounds too easy!” But, I had a bag of marshmallows sitting around, and I really wanted some of that fluffy goodness for a dessert I was making, so I figured, why not give it a shot?

First, I grabbed my bag of marshmallows – just the regular kind, nothing fancy. I dumped a bunch into a microwave-safe bowl. I didn’t really measure, just eyeballed it. I think it was maybe, like, a cup and a half?

The Melting Process

  • I added a splash of water. Just a tiny bit! Maybe a tablespoon? I heard this helps them melt evenly.
  • Then, I popped the bowl into the microwave.
  • I started with 30 seconds. After that, I took it out and gave it a good stir. It was still pretty lumpy.
  • So, back in the microwave it went! I did 15-second intervals after that, stirring like crazy in between each one.

It took a few rounds, maybe three or four 15-second bursts, but eventually, those marshmallows started to melt down. They got all gooey and puffy. The stirring was key, though. You gotta keep mixing it to make sure it doesn’t burn or stick to the bowl.

After a bit of microwaving and stirring, it started to look more like cream and less like melted marshmallows. It was still a little bit lumpy, but honestly, I didn’t mind. I kind of like it that way – gives it some character, you know?

And that’s it! Seriously, that’s all it took. I scooped my homemade marshmallow cream onto my dessert, and it was awesome. It tasted just like the stuff you buy in the store, maybe even better because I made it myself! Definitely trying this again.
