Okay, so I was making these cookies the other day, right? And the recipe called for 6 ounces of chocolate chips. I’m standing there, staring at my bag of chocolate chips, and it hits me – I have no idea how many cups that is. I usually just eyeball it, but I wanted to be precise this time.
First things first, I grabbed my phone. Gotta love the internet, huh? I did a quick search for “6 oz chocolate chips to cups”. I found a bunch of different answers, it’s really confusing!
I was like, “Wait, what even is a cup?”. So I started with some experiment. I found out that different chocolate chips also may differ in sizes. So I get my kitchen scale, then zeroed it out with an empty measuring cup on top.

- I poured in some chocolate chips until the scale read 6 ounces.
- I carefully leveled off the top of the measuring cup.
Boom! I checked how full the cup was. It looked like a heaping cup, and the precise amount varies on the types and size of chocolate chips, so the result may not be the same every time. I’d say it’s about 1 cup, give or take. Depends on how tightly packed those little chips are, you know?
So, there you have it. 6 ounces of chocolate chips is roughly 1 cup. Next time I’m baking, I’ll remember this little experiment. It’s not perfect, and sometimes it’s still the best to just using the scale!
