Okay, so I saw this recipe floating around for fudge made with just icing and chocolate chips, and I was like, “No way, that’s too easy.” But my sweet tooth was calling, and I had to try it. Spoiler alert: It actually worked, and it’s dangerously simple.

Getting Started

First, I grabbed a tub of store-bought frosting. I went with classic vanilla, but I bet chocolate or even cream cheese frosting would be amazing. Then, I needed some chocolate chips. I used semi-sweet, because that’s what I had on hand, but milk chocolate or dark chocolate would be delicious too.

The Mixing Process

  • I scooped the entire container of frosting into a microwave-safe bowl. It looked like a giant, fluffy cloud.
  • Next, I dumped in about two cups of chocolate chips. I didn’t measure, I just eyeballed it. More chocolate is always a good idea, right?
  • I stirred like crazy, that’s very important.
  • Then, I popped the bowl into the microwave.

Microwave Magic

I nuked the mixture for about 30 seconds, then took it out and gave it a good stir. The chocolate chips started to melt a little, but it was still pretty lumpy. I put it back in for another 30 seconds, and stirred again. I repeated this process a couple more times, until the chocolate was completely melted and the mixture was smooth and glossy. It took maybe 2 minutes total, but it might be different for your microwave, so keep an eye on it.

Setting the Fudge

Once it was all melted and smooth, I poured the mixture into a small, square baking dish that I’d lined with parchment paper. (The parchment paper is key, trust me, it makes it so much easier to get the fudge out later). I spread it out evenly with a spatula, then stuck the whole thing in the fridge.

The Waiting Game

This was the hardest part! I had to wait for the fudge to set, which took at least a couple of hours. I kept sneaking peeks, and finally, it seemed firm enough to cut.

The Result

I lifted the fudge out of the dish using the parchment paper, and cut it into little squares. And…it was actually really good! It’s super rich and sweet, and definitely has that classic fudge texture. It’s maybe a little softer than traditional fudge, but for something that took like 5 minutes to make, I was seriously impressed. My kids went crazy for it, too!

Will make it again!
