Okay, so yesterday, I had this serious craving for chili. You know, the kind that’s been simmering all day and is all rich and spicy? But then I hit a wall. What do I serve with it? I mean, cornbread is the classic, but I wanted something…more. A dessert! But what dessert goes with chili?
I started digging around, checking out some cooking blogs and forums. I saw some interesting ideas, for sure. People were suggesting everything from apple pie to churros. It all sounded a little…out there.
My Experiment Begins
First things First

- Cornbread: Gotta have the classic! I baked up a batch of my usual recipe – you know, the slightly sweet kind with a bit of *’s great, familiar, but not a dessert, right.
Then I get wild
- Chocolate Chip Cookies: Seemed a little strange to me, but, I love them, so baked a few from frozen dough. I tried them after the chili. The sweetness, the chocolate, it was all pretty much a no-go.
- Lime Sorbet: Then I pulled out the lime sorbet. The cold, tart sorbet after the warm, spicy chili? I give it a pass. Too much of a contrast, even for me.
- Cinnamon Rolls: My friend, suggested cinnamon rolls. So I bought some from the local bakery. I heated one up, and… The warm, gooey sweetness, the hint of spice from the cinnamon… it actually worked! It wasn’t overpowering, and the richness of the roll kind of complemented the heartiness of the chili.
The (Surprising) Winner!
I’m gonna say, for me,the winner is Cinnamon Rolls. I know, I know, it sounds weird. Chili and cinnamon rolls? But seriously, the warm spices in the chili and the warm spices in the cinnamon roll surprisingly play really well together. The sweetness of the roll also cuts through the richness of the chili in a good way, like a really good palate cleanser that’s also a treat.
So, next time you’re making a big pot of chili, don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Grab some cinnamon rolls – you might be surprised!
