Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little kitchen adventure today with Ocean Spray Orange Cranberry Relish. I’ve always loved a good relish, especially around the holidays, but I figured, why not try making my own?
First things first, I gathered my ingredients. Obviously, I needed cranberries. I grabbed a bag of fresh ones – figured they’d be better than frozen for this. Then, an orange. Just a regular navel orange, nothing fancy. I also picked up some sugar, because, well, it’s relish. It needs that sweetness.
The Prep Work
I started by washing the cranberries and picking out any weird ones. You know, the squishy or discolored ones. Gotta make sure you’re only using the good stuff. Then, I zested the orange. I love my little zester – it makes this part so easy. I made sure to only get the orange part, not the white pith underneath, ’cause that’s bitter.

Next, I peeled the orange and chopped it up into small pieces. I tried to get them roughly the same size as the cranberries. I’m not a professional chef or anything, so “roughly” is the key word here.
Mixing It All Up
Now for the fun part! I dumped the cranberries, orange pieces, and orange zest into a big bowl. Then, I poured in the sugar. I used about a cup, but you can adjust it to your taste. Some people like it super sweet, others prefer it more tart. It’s your creation, adjust it as much as you want!
I stirred everything together really well. I wanted to make sure the sugar was evenly distributed and all the cranberries and orange pieces were coated.
The Waiting Game (and the result!)
I covered the bowl with some plastic wrap and stuck it in the fridge. This is the hardest part – the waiting! It needs to chill for at least a few hours, or even better, overnight. This lets all the flavors meld together and the cranberries soften up a bit.
I let mine sit overnight, After that time I took out the relish and tested the flavor, it was delicious!
And that’s it! Seriously, it’s so easy. And the result? A bright, tangy, and slightly sweet relish that’s way better than anything you can buy in a can. It’s perfect with turkey, chicken, or even just spread on some crackers. Homemade always tastes better, right?
