Okay, so I’ve been craving a fruit pizza, but I wanted a glaze that wasn’t too heavy or overly sweet. I decided to try making my own glaze using orange juice, and let me tell you, it turned out pretty good! Here’s how it went down:
Gathering My Stuff
First, I had to get all my ingredients together. I didn’t want anything fancy, just some basic stuff I mostly already had:
- Orange Juice: I used about 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed, but store-bought would totally work.
- Sugar: Just regular granulated sugar, about 1/4 cup. I didn’t want it to be too sweet.
- Cornstarch: This is what thickens it up, like 1 tablespoon.
- A pinch of Salt: Just a tiny bit, to balance the sweetness.
Mixing and Cooking
I grabbed a small saucepan – nothing huge, just big enough for this small batch. I poured in the orange juice, added the sugar, and sprinkled in the cornstarch and salt.

Then, I whisked everything together really well. It looked a bit cloudy at first, but that’s normal.
I put the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. The key here is to keep stirring! I whisked constantly to prevent any lumps from forming. It started to bubble a little, and slowly but surely, it began to thicken.
It took about 5-7 minutes, I think. I kept stirring until it was thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. You know, that classic test. It turned from cloudy to this nice, glossy, almost-clear glaze.
Cooling and Glazing
Once it was thick enough, I took the pan off the heat. I let it cool down completely. This is important because you don’t want to melt your fruit or make the pizza crust soggy.
While it was cooling, I prepped my fruit pizza. It’s a bit of work, but it’s totally worth it!
After the fruit pizza was all set and my glaze was totally cool, I poured and spread a thin layer over the fruit. It gave it this beautiful shine and a subtle orange flavor that wasn’t overpowering. Perfect!
It was a total success! The glaze was light, tangy, and just sweet enough. It really let the flavor of the fruit shine through. This is definitely my go-to fruit pizza glaze from now on!
