Okay, so I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately, and I thought a fun way to do that would be to focus on one color group of fruits and vegetables at a time. This week, I went all in on orange! It’s been surprisingly interesting, and I figured I’d share what I did.
Getting Started: The Orange Hunt
First, I hit up the grocery store. I basically grabbed anything orange I could find. Think carrots, obviously, sweet potatoes, oranges (duh!), tangerines, apricots (those were a bit harder to find, had to go to a different store), and even some orange bell peppers. I also found some butternut squash, which is kind of orange-ish, so I threw that in the cart too.
Experimenting in the Kitchen
Next, I started experimenting.

- I made a simple carrot and ginger soup. It was pretty good, actually! Just boiled some carrots, added some ginger, and blended it all up.
- I roasted sweet potatoes with a little bit of olive oil and salt. Simple, but so tasty.
- For breakfast, I juiced some oranges and tangerines. It was so much better than store-bought juice.
- I even tried to make a salad with orange bell peppers and some other veggies. The orange peppers added a nice sweetness.
- I baked some butternut squash.
The Results? Pretty Good!
Honestly, I felt pretty good after a few days of mostly orange foods. Maybe it was just the placebo effect, but I felt like I had more energy. Plus, it was just fun to challenge myself to find new ways to use these ingredients. I’m thinking I’ll try green next week! Or maybe red… we’ll see! It was a very fun experience.
