Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little kitchen adventure today with this cranberry orange relish. I’ve seen this Ocean Spray recipe floating around, and since the holidays are coming, I figured, why not give it a shot?
First things first, I gathered my ingredients. You know, the usual suspects:
- A bag of fresh cranberries (I used Ocean Spray, naturally)
- An orange – just a regular one, nothing fancy
- Some sugar (I eyeballed it, don’t judge)
Getting Started
I started by washing the cranberries. Gotta get rid of any weird stuff, right? Then, I took that orange and zested it. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I kind of messed up the zesting at first. I went a bit too deep and got some of the white pith, which is bitter. So, learn from my mistake: be gentle with that zester!

After zesting, I peeled and chopped the orange into little chunks. I tried to get them roughly the same size as the cranberries, but, eh, close enough.
Mixing it Up
Next, I dumped everything into my food processor. Cranberries, orange chunks, orange zest, and a good helping of sugar. I’m a sweet tooth, so I probably went a little overboard with the sugar, but you do you.
I pulsed the food processor a few times. I didn’t want to turn it into complete mush, just a nice, chunky relish. It took a little trial and error to get the consistency I wanted. I think I pulsed it maybe 5 or 6 times total.
The Taste Test
And then…the moment of truth! I scooped a little bit out and gave it a taste. Not bad! It was tart, sweet, and orangey, just like it should be. Honestly, it was way better than the canned stuff. And it took, like, 10 minutes to make. Seriously!
I put the relish in a bowl and stuck it in the fridge. It’s supposed to be served cold, and I figure the flavors will meld together a bit more as it chills.
So, there you have it! My super simple, super quick cranberry orange relish experiment. It’s definitely going to be a part of my holiday table this year. If you’re looking for an easy, fresh-tasting cranberry sauce alternative, give this a try. You might surprise yourself!
