Okay, so I tried making this mandarin orange fluff with Cool Whip thing today. It sounded pretty simple, and I had most of the stuff at home already.

First, I grabbed a saucepan and dumped in some mandarin oranges. I used the canned ones, drained the juice, of course. Then I added some crushed pineapple, you know, the kind that comes in a can too. I also threw in some instant vanilla pudding mix. I wasn’t sure what the recipe meant by “cooked pudding” but I guessed and this is what I used.

I put the saucepan on the stove and turned the heat to medium. I stirred everything together, and it started to look like a goopy mess, but a sweet-smelling one. I kept stirring and cooking until the mixture got thicker. This took a little while, maybe about 10 minutes or so. The directions I found online just said to cook “until thick”. It’s not very helpful, right?

Once it was all thick and bubbly, I took the saucepan off the stove. I poured the mixture into a bowl and let it cool down for a bit on the counter. Then, I covered the bowl with some plastic wrap and stuck it in the fridge. The online directions said to cool it “overnight”, so I did just that and forgot about it.

The next day, I took the bowl out of the fridge. The mixture had set into a sort of wobbly, jelly-like thing. I got out a big tub of Cool Whip – had to be the real stuff, nothing else would work, I think. I took the advice I read online and mixed in about half the container first. Then I added in a bunch of those mini marshmallows. I just love marshmallows.

I gently folded the Cool Whip and marshmallows into the orange mixture. The key here is to be gentle, so you don’t deflate the Cool Whip too much. I kept folding until it was all nicely combined and looked fluffy.

My Thoughts After All That

  • Taste: It was pretty good! Sweet, tangy, and creamy all at the same time. The mandarin oranges really shine through.
  • Texture: Super fluffy and light, thanks to the Cool Whip. The marshmallows added a nice little chewy surprise.
  • Would I make it again? Maybe. It was easy enough, but the overnight chilling part is a bit of a drag. I’d probably tweak it next time, maybe add some different fruits or something.

All in all, it was a fun little cooking experiment. If you’re looking for a simple and sweet dessert, this mandarin orange fluff might be worth a try. Just remember to be patient with the chilling part!
